YES! I-1082

This blog wouldn't truly represent me if it didn't have politics sprinkled throughout it... so here's another sprinkle!

First, something to disgust you...

Fact: In 2007 and 2008, Washington state generously granted more than 3,200 lifelong pensions to injured workers, while Oregon granted only 24. So for every 1 penion handed out in Oregon, Washington gave out 150.

Is there any wonder why Washington's L&I rates are astronomical??? Oh, I should mention that Oregon allows private insurers to offer workers comp insurance to businesses. Washington state is 1 of only 4 states that has a government monopoly on worker's comp.

With that being said (if that doesn't disgust you, I could list many more facts!) the Building Industry Associaton of Washington is bravely taking on big government and labor to allow private insurers to enter the marketplace by introducting I-1082 to the voters! I-1082 accomplishes 2 major things. 1) allows private insurers to enter the workers comp marketplace and 2) eliminates the worker-paid share of the taxes since WA is the ONLY state that allows employers to deduct part of the tax from their employee's paychecks. (Yes, even as an employer, I support this!!!)

So, what do you want me to do about it is what you're thinking, right?? I have made a pledge to BIAW to collect 20 signatures in support of I-1082 (although it'd be fun to collect a lot more!) so, if you're willing, as a registered voter, would you please sign your name in support of bringing this issue to the voters?? Please contact me with a comment on here or by emailing me at Angela@lightningelectricllc.com so I can get your signature!

Thanks!
