Alright, I finally got caught up on my blog reading! Thank goodness for the few of you that forget to post... a lot :) Although this is the only time you'll ever get me to say that! Shame on you! And me! We need to post more! So on with our vacation...
It was dark by the time we got to Domonical, and wouldn't you think that would mean cooled down as well? Well if so, you're wrong. It was blazing hot there! I'd say low 90's that night. Which is typically great on a vacation... this one, not so much since there was no AC at night! Steve and Kim (the owners of Jazzy's Place, where we stayed) showed us around and all of the arangements and then left us to start our beach vacation! I will do my very best at describing this place and then hopefully clue you in better when I get the pictures. Steve and Kim have a house on the river, right at the mouth of it. When I say house, I mean they live there, it's not what your mind thinks of. It's two story, and both stories have walls that go up about 4 ft and then stop, all the way around it. So it's all open to the outside, no windows, no doors, and in my mind I'm thinking NO PRIVACY, but obviously that is how they like it or they wouldn't have built it that way. We stayed in their guest "house" or cabina as they call it. Downstairs it had a bathroom (with shower yay!), a kitchen, and little dining area... again, all open. The bathroom had wooden windows that open from the outside... which meant again... no privacy since certain husbands thought that meant it was free reign for them to open those shades while their wives showered. We slept upstairs where there was one full wall and a roof. It was basically like a lean to. The beds were mattresses on the floor with mosquito netting over them. I will just make this statement right now: I really enjoyed this vacation, we had a great time with the friends we went with, it was beautiful there, and having these sleeping arangements was fun to do... ONCE. I couldn't even believe how prissy this place made me feel! Apparently I have been way too spoiled!!! I would imagine that eventually you get used to sleeping when it's 80 something degrees out and super humid so you either stop waking up wet and sticky or get used to it, but the 6 nights we stayed, my body/mind made no adjustments!! I actually don't have a ton to say about our time in Dominical... there is only so much to say about laying on the beach every day. I do have random thoughts though. One, if you are a surfer or desire to learn, go to Dominical, and better yet, stay where we stayed! Steve is an outstanding surf instructor and apparently Dominical is one of the best beaches to surf at... supposedly better than Hawaii. Two, if you're like me and don't surf and don't have even the slightest desire to ever learn, pass on Dominical. There's not much there for you, and this is NOT a swimming beach (hence it being such a good surfing beach.) Luckily we had the van and were able to drive to some other beaches after the surfing vacationers spent the mornings surfing. There were beautiful beaches to swim in within 30 minutes of us in both directions. One of those was at Manual Antonio National Park which is a must stop! We saw lots and lots of monkeys there, some sloths and some of those giant lizard things. The water there was PERFECT swimming... it reminded me of our favorite beach in St. Thomas. Another day we went to a different beach (where our camera was stolen) and it turns out I'm quite the fan of boogy boarding! Totally my style sport, the water was never over my head and you just lay on the board and ride it in. I'm such a wimp! Kim and I even mastered 'doubles' on the one boogy board we had. This is the girl that people have been known to assume is my girlfriend/wife... multiple times. I wonder why??? Anyway, I think the rest of my vacation details will fill in when I get pictures and post them. Thanks for reading about our adventures! It's ok with me if you were living vicariously through us! Back to normal life for the Strotz's!
